Day 523, part 2 – Called it

Sometimes I get things right. Those times are always worth celebrating. I’ve been celebrating quite a lot recently.
(Please note that I am not celebrating the actual story here – I was a huge fan of Christopher Biggins.)

How about this Whatsapp message I sent last week, regarding this subreddit, which details the stories of Covid-deniers and anti-vaxxers who have then sadly gone on to die from the virus?

Well, my wish is their command, apparently.

Day 523 – Hey, Gregory Kitching, I had my second jab!

Great news for everyone (but most especially Gregory Kitching), is that I had my second Pfizer jab this morning. Beagle-eyed readers with better memories than me might recall that I my first jab was also Day Zero of my Covid experience (it’s ok, Greg, it was unrelated to the jab). I’m fairly sure that, while there might be some mild side effects, I won’t be going through that again any time soon. Thank [Deity].

Today’s vaccination experience was so much nicer than the first. Warmer, quicker, friendlier, closer to home, SO MUCH better organised. 22 minutes in and out versus the 5 hours of sitting in a soulless, freezing cold warehouse last time. If you are in the Southern Suburbs (and I know that you’re not, Gregory Kitching, but I do have many other readers), I’d highly advise pre-booking a slot at the Discovery Vaccination Site in Newlands. Seamless and smooth.

Assuming you need a vaccination, of course. I don’t think you can turn up there just to spectate.
But then who would want to do that, anyway?

For those who are interested (probably including – but certainly not limited to – people like Gregory Kitching), my first vaccine batch number was FG3064, while my second was FG4421. I’m not sure how many doses are in a batch, but it’s certainly great news that they’ve got through 1,357 batches in just 6 weeks. I make that 226 batches a week or more than 32 a day. Amazing numbers hey, Gregory Kitching?

Oh, and on the subject of Gregory Kitching, he asks the following question:

I do love your mask, Greg. Very cool.

However, unless anyone is enough of a moonbat to think that there’s some sort of nanobot or 5G chip in the vaccine, then this was clearly very much about the virus. Quite how you think 0.3ml of voluntarily-injected fluid could “control” someone is beyond me. Even the infamous “truth serum”, Thiopental Sodium needs 10x that amount (intravenously, nogal!) before it can have any effect, like making you admit that even though you try and portray an image of being a big, hard man, you’re actually a bit scared of needles and the ANC.

Not that I have any examples of anyone like that, of course.

Indeed. But let’s step back for just a moment.

The Epilogue:
While I can take a strong dislike to some people, I really wouldn’t wish Covid-19 on anyone at all. What it’s doing to people all over the world is truly awful, and at the moment, I wake up each morning knowing that I’m probably going to hear of another friends’ hurt at the loss of a family member.

But, if you look at the mask/hand image above and you answer with the lower legend, I’d strongly advise you to reconsider and go and have a look at this site, which is sadly full of stories of people just like you.

And sure, I know that I’m not going to change the minds of any dug-in, HARDCORE: I KNOW THE SCORE guys like Gregory Kitching, because even showing interest would be seen as “a sign of weakness”, but I’ve already managed to talk 6 ‘vaccine hesitant’ people into getting jabbed, and maybe I can add a few more to that.

Day 516, part 2 – Places to donate money

Earlier today, the JG Zuma Foundation – the somewhat shady organisation with no official headquarters or web presence (ok, there’s a twitter account) – set up to spread happy happy joy joy stories (wholesale propaganda) about our horrifically corrupt ex-President, posted this image (which I have slightly adulterated), requesting donations towards legal fees as JZ (occasionally) tries to fight the numerous charges against him.

Never mind that this dude and his cronies syphoned billions from the national coffers. Never mind that his family regularly share images of their latest luxury purchases and five star trips abroad. Never mind that his homestead had “security upgrades” which cost the public R246,000,000.

He needs your money.

Right.

But there are still people who will donate to this cause. Like there are still people who will take Ivermectin for Covid-19.

Great news: you don’t have to be these people.

If you have money to spare (in this economy, ruined by guess who? ha!), then please don’t give it to JZ.

Give it to The Haven and help homeless people in Cape Town who don’t have a R250million mansion to live in.

Or give it to Gift of the Givers, who are doing remarkable work all over South Africa and overseas.

Or even just go and treat yourself to a burger or something. You deserve it.

Just please – please – don’t give it to Jacob.

Day 516 – Damn you (all), Big Pharma!

I have grown tired of being told to “follow the money” by the you-know-whos when it comes to “Big Pharma” and the Covid-19 vaccines. Sure, I accept that the system is far from perfect, and sure, Pfizer et al. have made a shedload of money from selling the vaccines, but then they have invested a shedload of money in research, development and production of the vaccines. Contrary to layperson belief, these products didn’t just appear overnight.

To the anti-vax crew, “Big Pharma” conveniently consists of the companies that are making Covid-19 vaccines: Pfizer, AstraZenica, Moderna etc. And yes, they are doing very nicely, thank you very much with market caps of $279.94B, $133.9B and $100B, respectively.

Clearly, Big Pharma = Big Money.

You could take the view then that “Big Pharma” is evil and merely all about the wonga – and the alt-right whatsapp groups have done just that – but then we mustn’t just consider these vaccine-producing companies as “Big Pharma”, we must surely look right across the market and well… “follow the money”.

Let’s take Merck. Merck employs 74,000 people, managed almost $50b in revenue last year and is apparently worth $194.64B

Note that Merck is much “Bigger Pharma” than AZ or Moderna. Clearly, they must also be just as evil or even eviller.

And look! Merck does have a foot in the Covid-19 door as well: they hold the licence to Stromencol – that’s their trade name for “miracle wonder drug” Ivermectin.

Just another arm of “Big Pharma” making money from a crisis. THEY’RE ALL THE SAME, GARY!

But Merck has also stated very clearly that Ivermectin doesn’t work against Covid-19 and is unsafe to use for that purpose:

But Merck are (as demonstrated above) very much “Big” and “Pharma”, so why are they not profiteering from people’s pandemic misery? Merck is like the Eskom of pharmaceutical companies: actively telling people not to use its product.
It’s an odd way to do business.

Presumably then, this is where the “this pandemic is just a money-making scam for Big Pharma” argument stops.
Or at least is conveniently overlooked. Cognitive bias at its finest.

Pfizer says that their vaccine works against Covid-19 and is safe, and the moonbat brigade refuse to listen to a word of it.
Merck says their Ivermectin doesn’t work against Covid-19 and isn’t safe, and the loons still run to swallow horse wormer in their thousands.

It’s almost as if Ivermectin doesn’t work against Covid-19 and isn’t safe. But then, I guess this is just a clever example of “Big Pharma” reverse psychology. Which the anti-vaxxers have seen right through. Well done, guys.

What a weird situation. But then, they are, aren’t they?
