Replan

Uploading to flickr is not an option right now – presumably thanks to some problem at their end. So here’s a replanned quota photo:

Last time I was up here, the snow was going horizontally through the air and my inadequate clothing was proving to be… well… inadequate.

Today was much more pleasant, and we saw heaps of voles. (Not literally heaps, just a lot.) I’d love to share some photos, but there’s a problem with uploading to Flickr…

Cows can wait

I was going to tell you all about the cows that invaded “my” suburb of Sheffield over the weekend.
And I also had a paint-by-numbers politics post in mind.

But then tonsillitis hit our younger one and everything went south.
And geographically-minded readers will be well aware that there isn’t much south of here. Serious stuff, then.
Thus, let’s look for a quota photo.

Here’s the back of Table Mountain after this weekend’s (much needed) rain: the multiple cascades which end up running through Newlands Forest, into the Liesbeek River, into the Black River and then into Table Bay – as if it isn’t full enough already.

I need to get a (strictly medicinal) brandy now and head off to bed early. Experience dictates that it’s unlikely to be an undisturbed night. As for you – well, you already have a clue about what’s likely to be on here tomorrow. Take it or leave it.

Good night.

Further proof that I am not a proper photographer

I had a great time shooting things in the game reserve last weekend. I bagged a few elephants, some white lions, a couple of cheetahs and even a rhino or two. Just with the camera, of course. Anything else would be considered very naughty, although would have made for some superb biltong.

I’m obviously not a proper photographer though. Halfway down to Agulhas last night, I suddenly realised that I hadn’t even brought my camera with me. How careless is that? A real ‘tog would never have made such a rookie error.

I do still have my phone with me though, and – as we discussed earlier this week – there’s definitely a place for cellphone photography in my world.

This is just another example of how useful a ubiquitous camera can be; even if it isn’t quite as powerful, versatile and downright good as “the real thing”.
