The Promise

No, not the new hit from 30 Seconds To Mars, or indeed anyone similar, but merely a vow to get the photos from the weekend up onto Flickr… tomorrow.

Today’s shenanigans on the beach, followed by the trip home and then an impromptu braai and several (or more) beers have left me short on energy and inclination for anything other than my nice cosy bed on this distinctly autumnal evening.

So – the pledge is that the weekend’s photos will be uploaded to Flickr tomorrow.

Really, I promise.

Another lighthouse

I’m heading down to Agulhas this evening for a much-deserved break, and I’m determined to do some braai’ing, some exercise and some photography, so look out for the results of at least one of those things on here over the weekend.

Of course, there’s a famous lighthouse down there too, but this one, in North Wales, UK, popped up on my flickr feed (from the same guy that did this), and you know what I’m like with lighthouses.

So, if you’ll excuse me, the open road and some fresh sea air await.
Once I’m finished here in the lab.

Quota leaf

What? Seriously? This is all we get? A dead leaf?

Well, yes. I’m short on energy, inspiration, time and inclination, so it’s quota photo time, and I have chosen a quota photo of a leaf.

Initially, it looks quite arty. It’s only when examined more closely that one notices the lack of focus on the actual curled up leaf. So, you know, don’t examine it more closely, please.

But then, it was a point and shoot of my boy’s grubby hand (post jungle gym), captured in a ray of sunlight in the tasting room at Neethlingshof. It was never meant to be a masterpiece.
Having already visited Van Ryn’s distillery and then enjoyed a rather delightful wine and food pairing chez Neethling, I probably couldn’t have shot it (or anything else) in focus anyway.

It still looks rather good bigger and on black, though I do say it myself.
Lucky shot.

ex-Industrial Wales looks ok, actually

Here’s a wonderful photograph of Dinorwic Quarry in North Wales, where they used to quarry slate, and which is now home to the Welsh National Slate Museum (no, I had no idea either).

There’s much to see here. We’ve got slate (unsurprisingly), we’ve got water, a valley, shafts of sunshine on steep green hills with snow-capped peaks in the clouds in the background. That’s an awful lot of boxes to tick in one single image, but despite that, it’s not contrived in any way. It looks almost magical. And that’s not bad for an ex-industrial site in North Wales.

It’s even better bigger and on black.

BTS Aquarium Tour

We did a Behind The Scenes tour at the aquarium today. Regular readers will recall that we have done this before. Well, this morning, we did it again.

This was a photo I took before the tour – it’s a Tube Anenome. The photos from the actual tour, which was excellent and included a quick view into the new (but currently empty) 1,500,000 litre exhibit, will follow in due course.

UPDATE: As promised, here they are.
