Sony Smartband

Is this really the way that tech is going now? Do we really need to log our lives and track every step in order to remember each moment?

Surely when you take that photo, you know who the people are and where it was taken (and if not, your phone can already tell you).

Life bookmarks lets you catch that special moment by simply pressing the associating key on the wristband, so anything happening at that particular moment will be caught and remembered forever.

Yes, but MY BRAIN DOES THAT ALREADY! Does it really have to be recorded again by pressing a button on my wrist?
And note that this is additional technology – it’s not some new software that integrates into your existing (and very good) Sony mobile phone or tablet.

No, I simply cannot see any way this piece of technology would improve my life.

However, I am craving one more than you could possibly contemplate.

Heads Up – R180 off your first Uber ride

Where is the ‘Other Devices’ link on the new Google Chrome? – Solved

One of the best things about Google Chrome is the ability to log in to the browser and then be able to share your history across all your google devices, simply by clicking the Other Devices link on the browser.

However, during a recent update, that link disappeared and with it, apparently at least, the most useful feature of Chrome.

But never fear, because it hasn’t gone far. While researching moving a favourites folder from IE one one machine to Chrome on another machine for my Dad (sorted, thanks), I discovered that it’s safe, well and merely slightly less accessible.
Why would they want to do this? I have no idea, although they have a bit of history in this regard.

Anyway: to get access to pages you have opened on your Other Devices now, simply click the Customise and Control button on the top right of the browser – the one with three horizontal lines – and scroll to Recent Tabs. There, you will see all your Other Devices – and the pages you have been viewing on them – listed.

As an aside, clicking on History in that same menu drop down now shows your your browsing history on all your connected devices.

RTD

Having increased the average age of the general population at Hudson’s Burger joint (the Claremont one) last week, and then attended a 21st birthday party on the weekend where we – once again – upped the average age a bit, we will be heading out to the Cloof Wine Estate this weekend for Rocking the Daisies.

At first, we thought that we weren’t going to be the oldest ones there, but then there were licencing issues (or… something) and suddenly, no under 18s are allowed. While this may seem to be a plus point on the whole mean age thing, what it actually means are fewer parents going along, and they were generally the ones who were our age.

It’s not like I care though. I quite like the fact that I was enjoying the headline act while the rest of the audience were still in nappies. And I. Cannot. Wait.

Of course, the old stuff is the stuff that everyone knows: Weak, Hedonism, LatelyBrazen, but the new stuff is every bit as good, as I mentioned here. They’re not past it. Really. And as ever, it’s overtly in-your-face political:

But that voice. Goosebumps, every time.

Skunk Anansie provided much of the soundtrack to my 1990s. Trips down to Uni in London took about one and a half albums each way. And then I remember watching my wife-to-be fly out of the country while Secretly completed my emotional destruction.

And yet, I’ve never seen them live. This weekend will be a big bucket list moment for me and I’m going to enjoy every single minute of it.

Incidentally, there’s an RTD app for your smartphone, which looks pretty good. Loads of information and some really neat features, like a GPS to find your tent and car. Here’s the link to the Android version, or scan this puppy (it’s not actually a puppy, obviously):

Cinema

Off to the cinema again this evening (yes, I know).

cinema

No, I don’t even know what’s going on.
I’m not a huge fan of going to the cinema, but I’m happy enough to go along every once in a while to keep Mrs 6000 or the kids happy. Especially during a week with no football. *hyperventilates*

And I used the Ster Kinekor tablet app to book the tickets. And it was super smooth. And then it put the appointment onto my calendar. And then Google Now gave me directions to the cinema (although I actually know where it is) and suggested a suitable time to leave home to get there with a few minutes to park and buy popcorn.

I feel like I’m living in the future. And isn’t it nice when things just work?
