Lazy Saturday (afternoon)

After a really good night of braai’ing, beer and brandy, the last thing I felt like doing this morning was a Parkrun.

It’s often the last thing I feel like doing full stop, but at 7am this morning, it was an even less attractive option than usual.

But there’s more than one person in this marriage, and this was the occasion of Mrs 6000’s 50th Parkrun, and so I was up and ready to support her in this impressive achievement.

For the record, it was my 6th Parkrun, my first in almost 3 years, and my first in South Africa in almost 6 years. (I did say that it wasn’t my thing.)

But the Agulhas sunrise wasn’t bad…

The run done, I gave my legs a stretch on a speedy 2½km to the lighthouse, where we grabbed some decent coffee at the new Needles restaurant.

Home, showered and breakfasted, I just have to stay awake for United’s last game of the season, and then I can sleep off the excesses of last night and this morning.

Happy Saturday.

Out of office

I did think about using my time this afternoon to write a long blog post, the like of which hasn’t been seen on here since last week.

But maybe it was the early morning wake up call by the f*****g builders (yes, different builders to the ones that have been plaguing us in Cape Town for almost 6 months, and yes, today is a Sunday).

Maybe it’s the sea air (which is moving past the cottage at very, very high speed) or maybe it’s this morning’s beach walk in that gale force wind, but right now, I’m feeling that:

afternoon nap > long blog post

I realise that this decision won’t necessarily make some readers very happy, but please rest in the knowledge that I think it will make me very happy.

Assuming that the angle grinding stops soon.

Day 219 – Memories and naps

219 – that used to be the MW frequency for Manx Radio.

Manx Radio. Two! One! Nine!

…was the jingle. I’m sure that you are singing along in your head as I am in mine. Those were, as they like to tell us, the days.

I don’t think you’d advertise a show over there (or anywhere else, really) with that sort of headline right now.

But I digress. Often.

We’re down in Agulhas and I’ve spent the morning cutting back the fynbos and cleaning out the braai area. I did have plans for a mid-afternoon nap, but suddenly I feel that a pre-mid-afternoon nap nap may be called for.

You should hear what I’m got planned for the early evening.

(Actually, I have a couple of Only Connect shows to catch up on…)

It’s been a heavy, disturbed, stressful week and the fresh air, sunshine and peace and quiet are exactly what we needed.

And the wildlife is enjoying the springtime too: skinks, scorpions, a mongoose and several (or more) really large moths around yesterday, together with some White Stork, Glossy Ibis and Ostrich on the way down here. And then, just before a very early bedtime, a pair of Spotted Eagle Owls and some passing Black-Crowned Night Herons yesterday evening.

Idyllic. Idyllic, but all rather tiring. Nap time.
