A proper night of lying awake. Checking the clock, wandering the bedroom, considering life, the universe and everything.
There was no good news. Sorry.
It’s left me a bit broken this morning. I have managed to tip coffee all over my right hand in an exhaustion-induced move that was distressing because of both the pain and the wastage involved. In addition, it turns out that one can’t absorb caffeine through one’s skin and so there was no benefit in my mood or general responsiveness. I’m going to try tipping some more of it down my throat just now and see if that makes any difference.
After yesterday’s brief return to data capturing – a task I really didn’t understand just how much I didn’t miss – I’m moving on to bigger and better things today. Obviously, there’s a quiz to write (there’s always a quiz to write), some sorting out to do in the garden, some schoolwork and a Scout badge to assist with and – hopefully – an exciting new project which will result in a more stable website experience for everyone even vaguely connected with 6000 miles…
And then one more thing to look forward to. Bihari are doing deliveries and I am absolutely here for that. No jalfrezi on the slightly limited menu, but plenty of their really decent alternatives. “No Cook Thursday” just became a thing – for today at least. And assuming that I’m able to stay awake until they arrive with my curry.
UPDATE: Booked the curry. Life is good again.
You know when you have a favourite place to eat out? It might be somewhere you treat yourself to once every few weeks or even months.
You might go there most every day.
Bihari in Newlands is my one of those. Sadly, I can’t afford the time, the financial outlay or the likely detrimental effect on my health and weight to eat there every day. But if I could, of course, I would.
We were there this week and the chicken jal frezi was better than ever. And I can say this with great confidence, because I never order anything else when I go there. I can’t, because then I would be missing out on the chicken jal frezi. And how could anything be better than the chicken jal frezi?
Well, I suppose it could, but I will never know, because I will never take that risk.
It seems somewhat sad to never try anything else there, but I never will. However, it’s the only place where I’m like this. Even at other restaurants where I have really enjoyed my meal, the next time I go back I will try something else. But not at Bihari.
Thursday night’s chicken jal frezi was sublime and did nothing to change my approach. In fact, if anything, it merely cemented the dish as my all-time go-to curry there. But even if it hadn’t been as good as usual, next time’s chicken jal frezi would have made everything better.
Take my advice. Go to Bihari. Have the chicken jal frezi.
Then do it again.
I’ve been moving a lab halfway across Cape Town today and thought that a quick curry might just put right the wrongs of the day. Thus, we headed down to Constantia Village and The Raj, which is where Wasabi used to be.
Sadly, it turned out to be a very disappointing experience. This isn’t a restaurant review – I simply don’t have the energy for that – but suffice to say that the small, overpriced portions, unimpressive service and uninspiring food means that next time we want curry, we’ll head to Bihari, which is exactly what we should have done this evening, of course.
