Day 505 – 505

Day 505 of lockdown. I’ve been doing just about as much as I can around the house, and now I’m feeling it.

Time then, if I’m going to have anything at all left for watching the first Premier League match of the new season this evening, for a really lazy blog post.

I’ve always loved the way this track warms up as it progresses.

But the truth is, even having dropped this from the Sheffield legends in here, I’m going to be asleep before kick off tonight.

More tomorrow.

Day 463 – World’s gone mad

The world’s gone mad.
I have tried to swim against the tide, but I’ve given up and now I’m just drifting along with the rest of them.

Like some sort of… Passenger.

Perhaps surprisingly, this is the fourth best rendition of this song that I have ever heard. But that’s only because I have only heard four versions. Obviously, the correct order is:

  1. REM – (the Jools Holland version)
  2. Iggy Pop
  3. Siouxsie and the Banshees
  4. This one. Although if you have any other suggestions, they will almost certainly slot in above The Hoff.

Wow. So leathery.

Day 456 – Bad Hair Day

One of the albums of the day on 6 Music this week was Miracle by Francis Lung. I love hearing different, new (to me) artists, but they don’t always hit the mark (which is fair enough). However, with a track on each of the shows of the day, and me listening for quite a lot of that particular day, I got to hear three tracks and I liked them all.

Boom.

So I’m going to give the album a go. Here’s Bad Hair Day to give you a taster:

Lots of My Life Story, Gorky’s and even some Mika (remember him?) in there. Maybe even a hint of Belle and Sebastian. Cheery pop with a melancholic undertone.

IT’S GOOD STUFF!

Have a look at The Let Down (fun video – who knew that Francis would morph into Iggy Pop in 40 years time?) and a listen to Lonesome No More (lovely piano ballad) for more. And Dance For Sorrow for a glimpse into the back catalogue.

Day 429 – My music

A quick shout out for a new page added to my site in answer to a number (1) of enquiries about what sort of music I listen to. There are a few playlists that I have compiled for myself on popular music streaming service, Spotify. But while I made them so that I could listen to them at appropriate times in my life, there might be some appropriate times in your life that you think might be better if they had a decent soundtrack.

Don’t worry: the catchily named My Spotify Playlists page is here to help.

There’s a quick description of each of the playlists I have on offer, then you can click through and have a proper look and follow and/or recommend them if what you find there is agreeable.

Quick note: Playlist For A Chilled Braai is my particular favourite goto for many occasions, not just for a chilled braai.

And if you ever want to go straight to that page without having to find this post, then there’s a little Spotify logo button up there in the top right that you can use (right next to the buttons for my Flickr, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages).

I know, right? So thoughtful.
