Busy one

Today was a very busy day, so perhaps last night wasn’t the best time to drink copious amounts of very nice red wine. But then, is there actually ever a bad time to do that? Yesterday evening’s choice was a 2015 Proprietor’s Blend from Ormond in Darling. It was very, very good.

My head this morning was less good though, and I had to get the Boy Wonder up to Milnerton to play a SportsBall. This I did, but rather than sensibly dozing off in the car park for three hours, I decided to brave the traffic out to the west coast and wander along Bloubergstrand for a few kilometers. You might not know Bloubergstrand if you’re not from around these parts, but it’s the one with this view:

…of Cape Town and Table Mountain, the latter of which was – as you can see – covered by a fluffy cloud and the former of which was blanketed in some nice, thick pollution.

The photos I took also reminded me that I need to clean my lenses and camera.
Filthy splodges everywhere. Eww.

Back home for a super quick lunch, (the “super” describing the speed, rather than any sort of culinary or gastronomic quality) and then off to the local Scout Hall to help clear out gutters and cut down branches before the winter storms hit.

I walked hard and then worked hard today. I am now officially knackered.

Let’s sit back and see what’s in the red wine cupboard for this evening…

Unedited Falcon

It’s been an amazing weekend away with my girl – some great father and daughter time – but we’re back now and we’re knackered.

I haven’t got the time or energy to work through 600+ photos at the moment, so here’s a quick shot from camera to phone to blog of a Rock Kestrel or Kransvalk that we spotted on our way back from this morning’s wander in Suiderstrand.

So… more to come at some point soon.

Bit jaded

It’s been a pleasant Mother’s Day here in South Africa. And it was great to be able to celebrate and thank the amazing mother in our family.

We had a fun outing to the Waterfront, playing an escape room game together (and saving the world from a deadly virus) (no, not that one), and grabbing some lunch overlooking a clear Table Mountain.

All of this after a late, boozy night with friends last night. The kitchen looked like Putin had tried to de-nazify it this morning. Three dishwasher loads later, and all is well again, although the recycling guy will have his work cut out on Tuesday.

It’s been a fun day, but it will be an early night tonight.

First exams done

It’s the first day of the iGCSE season and some Geography and Chemistry papers have been done and dusted today.

Not by me, of course. But following several (or more) weeks of hard revision, The Boy Wonder seems confident that his first day of “real exams” has gone well, despite a whole chunk of loadshedding during the latter. Of course, the results are only out at the end of August, but there is a bit of weight off his shoulders to have finally got going on the actual exams.

And it does seem like he’s made a decent start. Bring on English tomorrow, hopefully with electricity.

Nice work, my boy.

It’s all gone a bit wrong

I should have had more time today, but it just didn’t happen. That’s not to say that it wasn’t a good day: slept around the clock (again – such a post-Covid thing for me), went for a walk in the forest with the beagle and the family, sorted out some issues in the garden, had some family around for a birthday drink (not me) and then a nice evening braai in the autumnal warmth.

All good, but a day full of stuff that wasn’t blogging.

And so the photos and the stories from the weekend away will have to wait. But it was fun, even if our first experience of our visit was being asked to leave a wine farm – it’s not like there weren’t several (or more) to go and enjoy.

So maybe more on that tomorrow. Tonight feels like a sit down and watch some footy kind of evening.
