Fishhoek view

Wow. Some party. Drunkenness, loud music, wigs galore.
And this view across Fishhoek bay when you took a little time out in the cool evening air.

There are other photos, of course, most (if not all) of which will mean more to those present on Saturday night. Don’t you hate the way that flash photography makes it look like there’s absolutely no atmosphere? There was plenty. I didn’t even realise that the dance floor was concrete until I looked at the photos. No wonder my feet hurt.
But anyway, you’re more than welcome to go and have a quick look and see if you recognise anyone. This being Cape Town ‘n all. [note: I was going to put a link to my “Cape Town is a very small world” post here, but I cannot find that post, despite searching for all the seemingly relevant terms. Hint: There’s very little point using the words “Cape Town” to search for anything on this blog.]
Scratch that – found it!

Bed at 2, kids awake at 5:45, spend day in soporific stupor (yes, even more so than usual).

Such is the life of a partying parent…

Thinned Sheffield Sky

Earlier today, I was wandering around arepeejee’s flickr (you may remember him from such blog posts as What were the skies like when you were young? and Eccy Rd Hoff Stolen), having seen a link to this masterpiece.

It was there that I saw the full version of this superb photo: “Sheffield Sky”

…which I have thinned (as I am wont to do to sunsets) and which, thanks to The Guru, can now be stretched to 678px without disrupting the sidebar.

Winning.

A380 over Cape Town

Remember this line:

…that will be the day when an Airbus A380 flies over the middle of London, much too low, with one of its engines on fire.

from this post?

Well, what if that were almost to happen, but with Cape Town and no burning engine?

Lufthansa brought their A380 from Frankfurt to Cape Town today (via Jo’burg) to do some promotional pics in front of what turned out to be a reclusive and grumpy mountain. While it was well-publicised in aircraft-enthusiast circles (and I’m not one of them), there wasn’t much else said about it.

More photos to follow shortly on flickr. <~ NOW UP!

Numb

From the sublime to the ridiculous. Considering we’re approaching midwinter, Cape Town’s Tuesday started so beautifully this morning. I was compelled to pull over on Rhodes Avenue and point my phone at the sun.
Now, 14 hours later, winter has returned and I find myself hiding under the duvet wondering if my roof will survive the night in this unnecessarily aggressive northwester.

While I was leaning out of my window during more peaceful times, this was playing:

It’s my favourite tune of the moment. A bit of The Killers, some MGMT, a heavy dose of the 1980s and a silly name thrown in. I will certainly be heading for the local record shop to search out their latest LP, All At Once.
