Istanbul at night

Long story short, Mrs 6000 went to Spain to visit a friend and then got stuck in Istanbul on the way home. Given that she had an enforced 24 hours in the city, she did a quick tour and then had a pricey drink in a hotel bar in Beyoglu with this view:

There are obviously a lot more photos taken in Spain and Turkey, and I’ll see if she wants them uploaded to Flickr, but in the meantime, I’m sharing this as my favourite. Using a unfamiliar camera, in the dark and just pointing and shooting, I think we can agree that this is fairly spectacular. #NoFilter

I now want to visit Istanbul. At night.

Another Manx Storm

My inbox has been alive with images from the Isle of Man suffering the slings and arrows of another winter storm this weekend. This just a couple of weeks after a huge storm hit the Island. They’ve come in from various sources (the photos, not the storms, they all came from Atlantic low pressure areas), and in various ways, so – aside from the top one – I’m not sure whose are whose. If they’re yours and you want credit or want them removed, please get in touch.

I recognise that these photos won’t mean as much to many of my local readers as they do to be, but 1. I want a record of them and 2. “My most important reader is me“.

Sea View

A quick quota photo, because I’m tired after another full on day with my little darlings. Much respect goes out – once again – to single parents. While Mrs 6000 has been away, this mouse hasn’t had the time or energy to play – except for three games of cricket, some swimming and a touch of Lego.

This was taken on my birthday flight back in September. Photos be here.

Tomorrow is treat day at the Waterfront. Should be fun.

Temperatures scales explained

A temperature-related conversation on Twitter earlier today reminded me that I’ve been meaning to post this helpful guide to the differences between the three main temperature scales:

On that note, the rest of the week in Cape Town is looking dangerously hot whichever scale you choose, with Friday baking us all and Saturday melting us with some sickeningly Durbanesque humidity.

Nice selfie

We’re living in the age of the Selfie:

a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website.

And you might think that the selfie you took last week was the best thing ever: it caught your good side, you were in focus, interesting background, nice colours etc etc. But you were wrong, because this one takes the proverbial biscuit when it comes to great selfies:

I don’t know how he got up there, I don’t know why he got up there, but the fact that he took a selfie while he was up there means that your effort last week is now worth NOTHING.
