Weird Day

Weird day.

Hot weather, back to work, student protests. All a bit chaotic.

So, as per every long-haul flight I take, it’s Ludovico Einaudi to the rescue. And he’s donned a superhero’s costume in the shape of his new album, which, now I’m back home, I have downloaded, post haste.

Here’s the official video from Walk, off his last album:

Nice and calming when set against the ridiculousness of the day. Or indeed at any time.

Ironically, my favourite track off the In A Timelapse album is Run. It’s kind of like Walk, but unsurprisingly, it’s faster, with contrapuntal Vivaldi and Pachelbel-esque overtones. It’s still beautifully relaxing though.

The new album is called Elements (as you’ll know if you’ve been here before) and, at first listen, seems to be a step into the more contemporary, with more electronica and deeper bass. I’m looking forward to giving it more attention before reporting back.

It’s Automatic

More music, in the shape of The Enemy this time. They’ve tided themselves up a bit since the days of …These Towns  (which is still brilliant, by the way) – they are more polished, more electronic, more mature and more… well… professional. It’s an interesting progression.

The 3D-themed Abba-profile shot-eque video is a little dull, but the music is promising. It’s Automatic is the title track from their new album, and it’s going to be another one to add to my bulging sack of music this spring.

Proper Rock, Done Proper

I was a bit late to the party on Royal Blood, but while I was over in the UK earlier this month, an inadvertent press of a button left me straying dangerously close to Radio 1 and there they were, banging out the raw, riff-addled rock and roll perfection that is Little Monster:

It’s a bit heavy for certain members of our family, but thankfully, my 7-year-old daughter shares my excellent taste and we spend quite some time yesterday evening listening to this on repeat.

Proper Parenting, Done Proper.
