Hurricane Lamp QP

Yet another busy morning, filled with trampoline building, sorting out the garden and prepping for a braai later today.

It all leaves very little time for blogging.

Herewith then, a quota photo which I’ve been using as my desktop background since I took it last month.

Super simple, super relaxing and won’t get in the way of your icons.

Help yourself to it for your desktop too: the big version is here.

Exhibition Road bubble

A QP from our recent flying visit to London:

As we emerged from several hours in the Science Museum, a street performer was performing on the street by blowing huge bubbles, accompanied by some dreamy classical music from a dodgy stereo.

There’s something quite ethereal about seeing 2m diameter bubbles floating towards you down a busy city street.
Still: makes for an interesting (and challenging) photo op.

Sadly, many of my London and IOM photos are very disappointing. I’m not sure how many are going to make it as far as Flickr.

So you should probably try your very hardest to enjoy this one then, right?

No quota photo

Yes, I have had a lovely weekend. Thank you for asking.

France, the UK, the Isle of Man – they were all amazing. But I can’t tell you how happy I was to get back to the cottage in Agulhas and just… be there.

The weather was ridiculously good and there was nothing pending, which meant late mornings, chilled days and plenty (or more) Castle Milk Stout.

Perfection.

There was also time for a bit of photography, and I’ve got a couple of nice ones. I’ve been playing with my new variable ND filter today – with mixed results, it’s a learning curve, ok? – but I don’t really want to mess up the holiday photos on Flickr, so I’m determined to get those sorted before sharing anything for the weekend.

So tonight is words rather than pictures. On the blog at least.
In “real life”, it’s more Milk Stout and an early night: the kids are back to school tomorrow and I’ve just seen what time the alarm is set for.

Eish.

Finals Day

This is another prewritten post, so I don’t know who is challenging for the 2018 World Cup. In fact, at this stage (the tournament kicks off in about 3 hours), even Google is unaware:

And you know that if Google doesn’t know, then neither does anyone else.

8 years ago, it was the final of the World Cup in South Africa. And, while it wasn’t held in Cape Town, I still think a quota photo of the stadium is somehow appropriate. After all, one of the semi-finals (I believe there’s one of them happening today?) was held here:

I actually took this in December 2009 – on the night of the draw for the World Cup in South Africa, after a busy night on Long Street.

Memories…

London

Google Trips tells me that I am spending the day in London today.

Yes, the train from Paris arrived here yesterday evening, but then it was all about the dash to get down to our hosts’ place after a day of travel.

Today, we get to explore.

Last time we were in The Big Smoke was just 10 months ago on a day trip down from Sheffield. [pics]

The light was awful that day. But perfect if you wanted to get a menacing shot of a Tower of London raven.

It’s also Tynwald Day in the Isle of Man. According to Google Trips, we’ll be popping over there on Saturday morning.
