Another one

One of the spin-offs of religion dying out in the UK (and in a lot of other places too) is fewer muppets. And that’s great.

But another spin-off is old, no longer required church buildings being converted into residential accommodation.

Like this one from a few weeks ago.

And this one, which I saw today.

Looks like a church. Was a church. Now a house. With a Tower Bar.

It’s what Jesus would have wanted.

Again, there is the modern interior design, sitting somewhat incongruously within the original church walls:

And the windows that are just too big for the bedrooms:

Says the blurb:

The best feature of the entire property has to be the glass walkway with glass flooring looking down over the living room providing access to the mezzanine area which is currently setup as a spectacular cinema room with 8 electric leather reclining chairs and a projector screen that comes down over the stained glass window making this a very special place to watch tv or movies.

And they’re not wrong. It does look a bit wow:

R27 million in today’s local money. Which seems like a lot (because it is), but you do get a whole church and “a stunning Victorian orangery with rainwater storage and paved flooring which makes this a special place to relax and unwind.”

Fair point. I can never truly be at peace in an orangery that doesn’t have rainwater storage and paved flooring.

This beautiful church is also only about an hour’s drive from Beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane, where Sheffield United relegated Sheffield Wednesday to League One yesterday afternoon.

Glorious.

Live in a church

Appropriate for a Sunday.

I’m not religious. I don’t go to church.

But I could live in one. If it was this one.

At £995,000, it’s a little out of my price range right now, but it is gorgeous.

Apparently, it featured on Grand Designs. I’m a fan of the show, but I haven’t seen this one yet. I’m sure I’d remember.

I’m not sure how long that link above will last, but maybe I’ll be able to find the listing on a archived website once it’s gone. <- NOTE TO FUTURE SELF.

Cardiothoracic surgeon advertises on local church railing (badly)

I’m not sure exactly who you need to get in touch with if you want a new heart, because this ad doesn’t seem to have any contact details on it.

Let’s hope that the surgeon in question – whomever they may be – is significantly better at their primary employ than they are at appointing advertising agencies.

A 2-for-1 deal with a plastic surgery practice would also seem advantageous.

Chairs

I’m feeling a little better again today, and with our neighbours’ building work now entering its fifth month, and promising to break new records for noise today, I’m going to get out and about and get some jobs done.

What does this mean for you? A quota photo of some chairs in a church.

The church in question was the cathedral in Auxerre and the chairs… well… they were those ones above.

I liked the light here and the orderly geometry of the chairs. And this was only a tiny percentage of the huge number of chairs in there. Empty this day, but I’ve heard that they get big crowds on Sundays.
