He’s one of our own

The kerfuffle of the Championship season run-in may have just about blown over for Blades fans, but the excitement is only just beginning to build and the awards for our manager keep on coming in:

Add that to LMA Championship Manager of the Year, EFL Championship Manager of the Year and EFL Manager of the Year and you can maybe begin to understand what a special talent this guy has. I mean, he could have spent over £20 million over two years on new players, got six fewer points and we could still be in the Championship next season, but that didn’t happen*.

Next season is going to be very, very tough, and simply surviving is going to be the objective. But I’d rather be playing Liverpool than Luton Town, Man City than Millwall, Chelsea than Charlton. We’ll get beaten – maybe quite often – but at least we’re in the Premier League, and that’s mainly down to this guy.

Last Night’s Bolivian Football Round up

Things are certainly hotting up at the top of the high altitude Bolivian Primera Division. With just five games to play, any one of four clubs could still take the title (along with that lucrative Copa Libertadores spot).
Last night’s results were great news for the new top two, with leaders Bolivar and The Strongest both recording victories, while there were shock defeats for Blooming (who had two players, including ‘slightly blurry bad boy’ Katuary Leonardo Urapuca, sent off) and Nacional Potosi, who suffered their first defeat to local rivals Real Potosi since about this time last year.

Four goals for ‘the hitman’ William Ferreira meant that Always Ready leapfrogged Guabira into 8th place in an incredibly one-sided game which had been accurately billed as ‘The Battle For 8th Place”.

All of this means that the top four are now split by just 5 points:

Sport Boys Warnes will be hoping that they can get off the bottom this evening as they face a trip away to Corné Wilstermann.

Bolivar have the easiest run-in of the top four, but it’s The Strongest who will likely decide the title, as they still have to face Nacional Potosi, Blooming and Bolivar, before a last game of the season against Always Ready who are… and will always be… always ready.
The say that to be the best, you have to beat the best. Clearly, for Bolivar to be the best, they have to beat The Strongest.
Or at least get a draw.

It’s looking like a thrilling end to the season, and I cannot wait to see who eventually comes out on top. Watch this space.

Calm after the storm

Last night went well then.

Dinner was great as well. A really chilled evening with one eye on events 6000 miles… away, and several (or more) drinks: some earlier on for Dutch courage, some more later to celebrate.
It was a messy, late night and I’m feeling it today.

We are having a science weekend at home (and in the lab). Science projects for both the kids yesterday and today, and the City Nature Challenge to play with this afternoon.

Finding 10 minutes alone to try and recover with something gentle like Agnes Obel’s Dorian has been the only saving grace for my poor, tired, aching body.

10/10 would do it all over again though.
