Another Love

It seems to be a thing to take an indie track, add some voice production, remix it with a housey beat and (hopefully) some piano and then share it on Soundcloud. If this Zwette reinterpretation of Tom Odell’s Another Love – allegedly complete with “sanften beats” and newfound “Clubtauglichkeit” – is anything to go by, long may it continue:

Everyone’s been going barmy over the new Adele song Hello. Not least my daughter who wants to sing all the things that Adele sings. As songs go (musically, at least), it’s quite nice. Not really my taste, but I can respect the writing, the production and the talent she has. The great news is that Dubai-based producer ConsoulTrainin has given us a soulful, deep-housey remix and it’s properly good:

There’s some other interesting stuff on his soundcloud page too, including a Julyan Dubson Remix of Kygo’s Firestone and – if you’re less into pan-pipes – his own cover of Baby D’s 1996 hit Let Me Be Your Fantasy.

Nemone’s Electric Ladyland show on BBC Radio 6 a couple of weeks ago featured the Kraak and Smaak remix of Royksopp’s I Had This Thing. I was transfixed for the whole 8 minutes. Wonderful.

Wild Frontier

The new album from The Prodigy – The Day Is My Enemy – is out, and it’s unapologetically bleepy, shouty, loud and beautiful. Already at number 1 in the UK, it seems that Keith et al. have been sorely missed.

Here’s the mad video for Wild Frontier. And yes, that’s a stuffed moose on a motorbike.

Somewhere deep in the past of this blog, I wished for the renaissance of 90’s bands, just as we have enjoyed (or endured, I suppose, depending on your point of view), something of a revival of 80’s bands touring and re-releasing once again. If this album is part of that (and yes, I know that there’s the argument here that The Prodigy never really went away), then I, for one, cannot wait. It’s brilliant. This is one of those albums that will certainly be up there, vying for second place in the coveted 6000 miles… Album of the Year award 2015.
