Our expedition around the Agulhas coastline passed off without incident.
My smart idea to dress Alex in brightly coloured clothes (yes, that’s an old Sheffield United away kit) meant that he was easy to pick out amongst the crowds and comprehensively failed to get lost.
Great parenting.

Our engineering skills were eventually defeated by the incoming South Atlantic Ocean, but it took a whole lot longer than we expected.
If we’d been allowed to use cement, scaffolding and possibly a large crane, I’m totally convinced that it could have lasted even longer.
Spring is still not here. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t make the best of what we have:
Here are two excited children heading down to the beach at Rasper Punt in the Agulhas National Park, fishing nets in hand, before collecting most of the South African population of crustaceans and heading back for a well deserved lunch.
What you can’t see is the chilly, near gale force wind that was blowing off the sea. But the sun was out, and it wasn’t raining – and two out of three ain’t bad.
I got an hour away from everyone and everything this afternoon.
