N SKY C

Via deleteyourself (see the blogroll):

N SKY C

Today is the summer solstice, which is a perfect day to announce my latest internet “art” project.

I wrote a program that takes a picture outside of my office window every 5 minutes. It uploads the photo to a server and then analyzes the sky portion to figure out what the average sky color is at that time. The site is a constantly updating mosaic and record of the sky over New York City, and I think it looks pretty awesome.

I’m looking to expand this project across the globe. If you have a cool view and wouldn’t mind running the program hooked up to a webcam all day, get in touch.

As you may have heard, I’m not too big on art, but this is rather cool. Hover over any bit of the mosaic and the image from Mike’s window appears:

Surely someone from Cape Town must have a decent enough office view to warrant giving this a go?

6000.co.za is now on Facebook

With Facebook rapidly becoming the all conquering behemoth as far as the internet is concerned, it seemed wise to finally take the plunge and make one of their ridiculously named “fan pages” for the blog. Now it should be noted that for the amateur [waves], Facebook doesn’t make it easy for you to do this – the interface is horrible and not at all intuitive, the language is confusing and everything is that nasty Facebook blue.
It’s probably for those reasons that I haven’t done it before.

But anyway, all in all, it’s been a steep learning curve and I have a horrible feeling that it will continue to be a steep learning curve. But click that LIKE button in the side bar there ~>, (or alternatively, click here) and bear with me and once things are up and running smoothly, I’ll sort out some Facebook-only competitions to make it seem that the 0.5 seconds it took you to click your mouse button was completely worth your while.

Now let’s see if the dlvr.it app does its thing and plonks this post where it needs to go.

Simon Evans: 3 Men Joke

UPDATE: It since turns out that Simon Evans has become a bit of a right wing twat. I didn’t know that was going to happen at the time I posted this, so no judgies, k?
I’m leaving this up because it’s funny, and it reminds me that while people can change for better or for worse, good comedy remains good.

Saw this guy on TV the other night and have subsequently been viewing some of his stuff on YouTube.

This 2:36 clip from the Edinburgh Comedy Festival sums him up nicely and is well worth your time and bandwidth.

And if that tickled your fancy, you can watch his 2009 Comedy Store performance here.

Best LOLs on the internet?

Each to their own of course, but I thought I’d share three sites with you that make me laugh (out loud) each time I visit them.
That’s not to say that they’ll make you laugh too. But they might. You may wish to give this a go.

The first, obviously, is Damn You, Autocorrect. This won’t be new to most people, but it deserves a mention here.
DYA illustrates the outcomes from SMSs where the iPhone’s “Autocorrect” function changes one word to another, giving the message an entirely and often hilarious new meaning. Much of it is therefore based around sex or toilet humour, but it’s still very amusing.
It does make me wonder just how much time, energy and money is wasted by iPhone users though. My Android just gets the correct message through first time. Not funny, just effective.

Secondly, a new find via @Terranceb on twitter. This is “Literally Unbelievable” … and it is just that.
Of course, everyone worldwide has heard of spoof news site The Onion – pretty funny enough in its own right. Well, everyone that is aside from the individuals on “LU”, who take each spoof story as gospel and vent their disappointment, anger and (ironically) their disbelief at the stuff they are reading. It’s like a targeted Lamebook – demonstrating the dangerous stupidity of some people of Facebook.
“LU” is a new site and I really hope it gets going.

Finally, for the moment, the long overdue compendium of Instagram Quote Rebuttals.
Instagram is the iPhone app favoured by hipsters to “paint with light” and whose images are often the often vacuous attempts at “profound monologues” that are crying out for an answer. Well, now they’ve been answered. Hilariously.

Some are a little rude, the odd one isn’t actually very good. But the vast majority of them are, as Edu would say “qualitay”.

Feel free to share your favourite LOL sites in the comments below.
Please note that anything involving cats will not be tolerated.
