Finito

I’m fully done today. 18,000+ steps deep into a day that has included some Pilates and then a reasonably quick 5km run. It didn’t feel like the Pilates was enough exercise, but looking back now, the combination of the Pilates and the run was almost certainly too much exercise.

It’s sometimes difficult to find a balance, and I’m clearly not the only one finding that:

I had to rush out and make some urgent purchases – we seem to be spending ALL of the money at the moment 🙁 – followed by a massive cleaning session ahead of a neighbourhood meeting in our house. I’m not in the meeting, I just prepped for it.
Oh, and plenty of driving in some of the most horrendous Cape Town traffic.

All of this in 34 of your South African degrees of heat.

It’s been draining, and my knees and core are feeling particularly drained.
As you might expect.

Thankfully no football tonight to try to tempt me into a late one, although I genuinely don’t think I would fall for their charms. Self preservation is the name of the game this evening.

Tomorrow looks cooler, which is good, as I have a lot of outdoor work to get sorted. And I can get going on that early, because there’s no way I’ll be able to do any exercise thanks to the World Of Pain™ that I am fully expecting to wake up into.

Small – and unfortunate – mercies.

Hot and bothered

It’s been a hot day.

Another hot day.

Mrs 6000 is partying up a storm at The Met.

Little Miss 6000 has been thrifting in Hippieville, man.
And the Boy Wonder has been doing Dodgeball stuff in the sunshine.

Me? I stayed home and kept the beagle company. Working through some jobs while I did so.

All the jobs are done, and I feel the need to sit down and watch a football match or two.

Just in case

No power. No internet.

As I write this, at least.

I’ll pop this here just in case.

And then add to it if I can.

UPDATE

Hello everyone.

Just to let you know that we’re back in Cape Town: lucky enough to have somewhere else to go, given that the power is still off down South, and will be for probably another 24 hours.

That will be about 72 hours in all, and fridges, freezers, geysers etc just don’t work with no electricity.

Our neighbours’ damn pool pump? Sadly yes, because they have solar. So that was a nice, constant annoyance.

But I digress, often.

The repairs have been started, the fire is still burning, the residents are surprisingly understanding about the whole thing.

And I have 500 photos to go through.

But right now: braai time.

The Best of 2024

A mixed year, dominated on the home front by all that stuff happening next door.

United were utterly terrible for the first half of the year, really good in the second.

There was a blue man on a bridge in Paris.

Something turned 175.

I did a playlist.

Some cows docked in Cape Town.

The Boy Wonder passed a test.

The DA “burned” a “flag”.

Some feline suspects escaped.

There was some poorly concealed Uranium on the Isle of Man.

It was all going off at the ploughing in Ireland.

We learned why it was so dangerous to cross the road in Georgia.

We won the Derby.

There was Raygun.

Yeah. There are few hundred more posts to read if you want to, as well.

Shall we try to do it all again – but better – next year??

Afternoon catch up.

Look, this is going to be a quick one. The braai is lit, and I’m running slightly late this afternoon, due to a entirely deserved and much-required 2½ hour nap just after lunchtime.

Wow, it was good.

It was a morning filled with a decent gym workout, followed by another upper body session while sanding and painting (some of) the living room. It turned out that I’d been a bit bold with the filler when doing some maintenance a couple of weeks ago, and when the time came to make it all flat again (today), there was probably more work than there should have been.

Anyway, that’s now done and it actually looks pretty good.

In other news (because I know that you are desperate to know every detail of my life), I might – might – have finally fixed the bug that has been plaguing my Garmin watch for the past couple of weeks. And if – if – I have, then I will be able to start getting Discovery points for my 10,000 steps again instead of having to rely on several (and more) hardcore workouts each week.

Might not be a big thing to you. It’s a big thing for me.

And there will likely be post on it at some time in the future so that other people don’t have to go through the same irritation that I’ve had to bear.

OK. But now I need to go. A chunk of rump, some lamb ribs and some tikka chicken are awaiting entry onto the braai grid, and I’m going helping them on their journey over the coals.

Tomorrow looks like it might be a fun day, which – if I have time – I’ll share live.
